On March 31, 2022, William Deresiewicz brought to us a lecture on the faulty nature of the existing elitist education across different top-level institutions, Davidson included. Mr. Deresiewicz, as a graduate of Columbia University himself, shared with us his concerns through a personal anecdote. He said that years ago when he had a home repair worker over to his home, he was unable to initiate and sustain a friendly conversation with him. He failed to find a common ground, a common topic on which they could casually or meaningfully exchange. Mr. Deresiewicz realized at that moment how his education, the highly recognized Columbia degree that claims to produce elites for the betterment of the society, has engendered such an unbridgeable gap between him and those like the handymen, who receive a relatively lower level of education.
